In August of 2022 FDOT announced that they are “pausing” the Northern Turnpike Extension after finding “no viable corridors”. This is a huge achievement and a testament to the grassroots organizing and activism of local residents who push back against this project. Congratulations to all who were involved; we thank you for your dedication to protecting Rural Florida.

But we are not going to rest on our laurels. The No Roads to Ruin Coalition through our network of organizations, activist, and allies will continue to monitor the Northern Turnpike Extension and any other toll road threats that is a vestige of M-CORES (e.g. the Suncoast Parkway and Southwest Central Connector toll road proposals). FDOT  and state leadership has heard loud and clear from threatened rural communities that “NO BUILD” is the only option! We will remind them of that should they try and bring ANY of these project proposals back.
