Inverness and Citrus County residents need to speak up against the Northern Turnpike Extension toll roads! Share this Facebook event widely in your networks and with your neighbors! https://fb.me/e/1JuNZmhPc

Last week, the Inverness City Council received a presentation from FDOT about the Northern Turnpike Extension and was less than impressed (watch the recording here and read more about it here )

Our collective advocacy is clearly working and now is the time for the Inverness City Councill needs to hear from the residents that we don’t want our communities, quality of life to be paved over by new toll roads that would ruin our communities, lakes, wetlands, springs, estuaries, wildlife, farmlands all that which makes the Nature Coast so iconic and appealing place to live and visit.

Join us on Tuesday, March. 15th at 5:30 PM for the regularly scheduled Inverness City Council meeting. We are making plans to show up in force so that the City Council hears from residents why we want them to reject the road and pass a No Build resolution against the Northern Turnpike Extension toll roads to send a crystal clear message to FDOT, Governor Ron DeSantis, Senate President Wilton Simpson, House Speaker Chris Sprowls, and the entire Florida Legislature.

We will have brightly colored No Build mini-posters and magenta Rural Florida Says No Toll Roads stickers to wear so you don’t even have to give public comments to be heard! Be sure to arrive early to get a good seat and to register for public comment!

  • Date: March 15, 2022

  • Time: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

  • Location: Inverness Government Center

  • Address: 212 W. Main Street Inverness, FL 34450

While at this time the Northern Turnpike Extension is not on the agenda, we will be showing up in force to provide public comment during the “OPEN TO THE PUBLIC” section of the agenda that allows for public comments of 3 minutes for individuals and 5 minutes for organizations to be provided usually after the conclusion of public hearings. When exactly this will occur is difficult to say, so arrive early to get a good seat and be prepared to wait to provide your comments.

Before the March 15th City Council meeting please send a strong “No Build” message to all of the Inverness City Council Members. Raise your environmental, community, cultural and other concerns about the proposed routes. Ask them to support the No Build option and pass a resolution opposing ALL of the Northern Turnpike Extension toll road to send a crystal clear message to FDOT. You can provide all of the City Council members, the City Manager, and the City Clerk with this DRAFT No Build resolution specific to Inverness for their consideration.

Here are the emails you will want to send your No Build message to:

The public showed overwhelming opposition to a Northern Turnpike extension during the Feb. 22 Citrus BOCC meeting and now we need folks in Citrus to do it again!
