IMPORTANT UPDATE AND BACKGROUND: On August 4th, FDOT announced that they would be ‘pausing’ the Northern Turnpike Extension after the Florida Turnpike Enterprise Alternative Corridor Evaluation Study Concluded with no Viable Proposed Corridors.

Write a letter to the editor

Organize locally to pass a “No Build” resolution! The previous “No Build” or “repeal M-CORES” resolutions previously passed by many local governments will not be considered by FDOT.  Local governments must pass new “anti-NTE” resolutions.  Check out this draft resolution you can use. 

 Note: On December 21st and again on January 4th, the Marion Board of County Commissioner failed to take a hard line against the Northern Turnpike Extension toll road despite the City of Dunnellon and the Levy Board of County Commissioners passing No Build resolutions.

Speak up to your relevant local government body and let your local electeds know that you want them to oppose ALL of the proposed Northern Turnpike toll roads routes: 

  • Marion Board of County Commissioners: The county commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9 am in the McPherson Governmental Campus auditorium, 601 SE 25th Ave., Ocala.
    • Contact your County Commissioners
    • Monitor upcoming public meetings, request agenda packets and register to speak
      • County calendar with information on County Commission meetings and agendas among other various County committees
      • Sign up here for public comment 
      • NOTE: The deadline for scheduling your public comment is 5 p.m. the Friday before the requested commission meeting. You can also contact Marion County Administration at 352-438-2300 to request to speak.  Those who do not submit a request are still welcome to sign up to speak on the day of the meeting, but will only be allotted two (2) minutes.

  • Dunnellon City Council:  City Council meetings are on the second Mondays of the month except for holidays. 20750 River Drive Dunnellon, FL 34431

  • Reddick Town Council: The Council meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM. in the Reddick Community Center located at 4345 NW 152nd Street. 
  • McIntosh Town Council: The McIntosh Town Council holds its regularly scheduled meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. The meetings are held at the civic center located at 5835 Avenue G, McIntosh, FL
    • Contact the Town Board
    • Agendas/Minutes: Residents wishing to speak at a meeting should notify the town clerk 72 hours prior to the meeting and will be placed on the agenda. You may contact the town clerk at 352 591-1047.
      • Getting an item laced on the town council agenda: Residents who wish to be placed on the agenda may call the town hall at 352 591-1047 or submit a request in writing (P.O. Box 165 McIntosh, Fl. 32664) stating the date he or she wishes to appear and the subject matter to be discussed. Supporting information or background data to assist the council is appreciated. The request to appear must be submitted to the town manager by 12 p.m. at least 7 days prior to the next commission meeting. The resident will be listed under “General Public Items,” and will have five minutes to make a presentation (unless additional time is granted by the board chairman).

  • Ocala-Marion Transportation Planning Organization (TPO): The TPO meetings are located at 2710 E. Silver Springs Blvd Ocala, FL 34470
    • TPO Calendar: Check the calendar for when relevant TPO meetings will be held. TPO Board and committee meetings are usually held on Tuesdays, but it varies so be sure to check the calendar for the most up-to-date information. 
    • Agendas & Minutes: The Ocala Marion TPO meeting agenda packets are available to the public seven days prior to a regularly scheduled meeting.

Contact your state representatives in the House and Senate and let them know you are concerned and opposed to the Northern Turnpike Extension Toll Roads. Find them here.

FDOT’s Northern Turnpike Extension ArcGIS tool:  FDOT’s ETDM (Efficient Transportation Decision Making) website now has info on the Northern Turnpike Extension for Marion, Sumter, and Levy counties showing proposed routes which (no surprise to us) ignore the M-CORES Task Force recommendations.  Take the same link to get to the map/routes (on the left side of the screen look for “view of map” under “Project Detail.”
